Looking underneath, waiting to appear
Traces are always there whether you notice or not. Hiding in our surrounding environment and within ourselves, they are worth uncovering. “Looking underneath, waiting to appear” provides a space to find them.
In conjunction with Terasu, HDGR presents its first ever group show, a body of work gathered from a diverse group of artists from Japan, California, and France who converge around culture – from the food we receive, the mountains we traverse, and the ocean we enter.
Across mediums and geographies, the works trace instinct, intuition, physical and environmental conditions, and cultural narratives. For this multifaceted group, nature is the sole constant, as it is either portrayed photographically or used as the source of material for the work itself.
Participating Artists:
Ido Yoshimoto, Alex Yoder, Yoshiki Hase, Kanoa Zimmerman, Margaux Arramon-Tucoo, Yusuke Sakamoto Max Houtzager Rob Schanz, Alex Kopps Keisuke Masuda, Taro Tamai, Teshigawara Kanako, Shinobu Namae, Amy Schanz
HDGR is a gallery located inside of Parklet in Nihonbashi which pays homage to
its history and surroundings. HDGR’s exhibition program explores ever changing food culture, methods and tools for living, and presents surveys of our relationship with built and natural environments.
